Joanna spent her formative years growing up in Adelaide.
She was a regular attendee at National Music Camps and a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra.
She has a Bachelor of Music in Performance (University of Adelaide) and a Graduate Diploma in Performance (University of Tasmania) studying under the tutelage of Ronald Woodcock and Jan Sedivka respectively.
She was a permanent member of the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra (1983-1991), and a freelancer with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Chorale Orchestra, Australian and Queensland Pops Orchestras and the South Australian Opera Orchestra.
With a teaching career spanning more than 40 year she has taught and managed school string programs in both Melbourne and Brisbane along with a highly regarded private studio.
She has been a tutor for the NSW Regional Youth Orchestra, Queensland Youth Orchestra and Qld Dept of Education.
She currently serves as member of the NSW AUSTA committee representing her regional area.
Joanna particularly enjoys directing youth string ensembles at NECOM, within local schools and at the annual Riverina Summer School for Strings.
Many of her graduating students have been recipients of HSC Encore Nominations and gone on to study performance degrees in Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide.
Joanna joined NECOM as Head of Strings in 2015.
